• Cultivating a Sharp Mind

    woman thinking

Improving your mental capacity and brain power is a process that involves body, mind and spirit. While it is important to keep your brain active with mental challenges such as a challenging book or cross word puzzle, you should also work to give your mind time to relax so you are able to tap into your subconscious for a greater state of awareness. Your mind will respond to holistic healing techniques that help cleanse your body and balance your energy. Here is a look at what you can do to achieve this state in your daily life.

    Eat a balanced diet

The food you eat has a direct impact on your focus, memory, and mental capacity, so changing the way you eat can help you think more clearly. Healthy foods like the vibrant selection of fruits and vegetables you would consume in a raw diet will offer your brain the nutrition it needs while cleansing the body of toxins that could impede your brain function.

    Get more exercise

Just after exercising, you may feel more alert and focused, because your body has released hormones that make you feel energized and productive. Exercise also has long-term benefits for your mind, as it will facilitate better, sounder sleep.

    Use meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool that can help you achieve a state of peace, connect with your subconscious mind, and enhance your spiritual connection. When you meditate, you will quiet the mind as you relax, and this will allow you to refocus, visualize your goals and allow your body to heal itself.

When your body, mind, and spirit are aligned, you can achieve good health. If you are looking for a holistic healing program, in San Diego or Austin, visit Optimum Health Institute . • Vocal Toning: Healing Through Sound Vibrations

    toning

Quieting the mind and focusing your energy is an important part of the healing process for your whole body. Practicing Alpha or meditation is one way you may work to achieve a peaceful, balanced state of mind, and it can help you tap into the art of vocal toning. It has long been understood that sound vibrations are beneficial to the mind and the body, and vocal toning takes advantage of these mental and physiological effects.

What Is It? Toning is a gentle form of sound healing that helps us to heal on all levels by using certain notes and vowel sounds. The vowel sound is held for a certain number of minutes at the same pitch, unlike singing where you may vary the pitch. While there are multiple types of sound-based meditation techniques, those using a person’s own voice have been found the most effective. As the tones are sung, the chakras or our body centers respond. Using sound to resonate each center helps to “charge” those areas by increasing circulation, energy, and vitality. Quantum physics is suggesting that possibly disease in the body originates with disturbances in the electromagnetic field. Toning 3-5 minutes at each energy center helps “smooth out” the energy fields.

    Getting Started in Vocal Toning

Once you learn about vocal toning and how to use it, you can incorporate it into your private or group meditation sessions. Guided meditation classes are the best way to learn vocal toning and then the techniques learned can be practiced at home with CDs to provide a peaceful, soothing background melody for your sound healing experience.

    Who Uses It?

More and more and more people are finding healing through vocal toning. Sound healing has become a popular and well-respected field in mind-body medicine. Some pioneers in this field are: Steven Halpern, Jonathon Goldman and David Ison. The Optimum Health Institute uses the CD, Sing the Body from Dorian Carter in their toning class. You can order this CD by calling the OHI store at 888-643-7867

  • Recognizing the Many Aliases of Sugar

    woman reading food label

With today’s processed foods and eating-on-the-go culture, sugar is making an appearance in all types of foods marketed as healthier options. It may be somewhat difficult to spot the saturation of sugar in all types of foods you might eat every day, so you should learn the other names that sugar can take on as you take control of your health . Below are some of sugar’s many disguises that you might encounter on food labels.

    Syrup

Agave, corn, maple, and rice syrups are all commonly used ingredients in foods that pose as health food choices. Because their names are of vegetable and plant sources, it is often assumed that these sugars are better for your health than simple cane sugar. In reality, these types of sugar are just as fattening as table sugar, and they have none of the nutritional value of the plants they come from.

    Sucrose

When you read food labels, it is rare that you will actually come across the word ‘sugar.’ Instead, you might see sucrose, which is the scientific name for the familiar white powder more commonly known as table sugar. Fructose and glucose are the components of sucrose, and these are more words to watch out for.

    Fruit Juice

Fruit juice is one of the most deceptive forms of sugar, because it is assumed that the juice takes on the nutritional qualities of the fruit it comes from. However, fruit juice is mostly a source of sugar and not much else. Even if some vitamins remain present in the juice, it no longer contains the fiber found in whole fruit which can help digest the sugar properly. All kinds of juice—from concentrate, organic, and 100% juices—are big sugar sources that should be traded in for the whole raw fruit.

    Evaporated Cane Juice

Prepackaged foods are carefully designed for trickery, and the use of the words, evaporated cane juice” is proof that labels can be deceiving. Evaporated cane juice is exactly the same as regular sugar, but it sneaks into many diets because of this misleading wording.

At Optimum Health Institute , we will help guide you through the proper steps to take in eating and preparing food so that you get the most out of a vibrant raw diet to cleanse your body.
